Worker Bee
If you’ve got bees, enjoy the buzz!
This is what I was thinking as I prepared our flower beds. I am now seeing (and hearing) what native plants have given us in return. In retirement I have found a new desire that never occurred to me a few years back while I was still working. The thought of making our landscape more appealing was something I just didn’t have time for. Back then I was embedded in work, not in planter’s mix, borders and mulch.
The joy this brings is something so worthwhile it’s hard to believe it took me so long to realize it. Aside from wonderful color through spring and summer blooms, bees and butterflies have found lodging here, too. That pleases me. The front range of Colorado is prone to drought, so creating a yard that thrives does have its challenges. I am embracing plants that are native to create a landscape that conserves water in the process. When the work starts to tire me, I try to remember this is all an environmental sculpture of sort, a work in progress. Something creative I can feel a part of.
