Tom Lybeck Original Waking Moment

Waking Moment

Almost everyone I know who walks in the countryside has heard this familiar sound, a soft “Coo, Coo, Coo” followed by a pause, then a repetition. I hear it best when my surroundings are quiet and calm. I experience it on my morning walks or when I’ve stopped for a time to admire the view around me.

I try to start every day embracing this peace. It begins with morning devotions and my quiet time with the Lord. In all my waking moments I ask, “What is your will for me today? Will your Holy Spirit guide me through all I may encounter? Will you continue to strengthen my faith so that I remain in this relationship with you forever?” The mourning dove reminds me of this kind of peace. Very subtle and content. Listening for God’s response offers me a time to just be. It works for me, and it starts the day off right.

The time I spend with God, reflecting on life, is important for my well-being. He extends this invitation to everyone, inviting us to slow down and not race through life. God has a plan for each of us, one we don’t want to miss.
